Original Compositions
Reminiscent (pdf)
This song is an original composition written for and performed by UNO Combo I. Take note of the repeated pattern in the keyboard, rhythm section groove, and the melancholic trumpet melody over the top. This is definitely my favorite song that I’ve ever wrote. You can hear me play a trombone solo at 4:00 into the video.
The Power Within (pdf)
This song is an original composition written for and performed by UNO Combo I. This song begins with a duo between brushes and piano, and grows bigger bigger. The contrasting section beings the energy down with a stirring piano solo. You can hear me play a trombone solo at 2:20 into the video.
Prism Break
This song is an original composition written for and performed by UNO Combo I. The tune is based around transitioning between two time feels: a slow groove in 6/8, and a faster funk in 4/4. The song moves between the two feels using metric modulation, a musical technique that alters the tempo of a passage by changing the pulse rate or grouping of pulses. The change is highlighted at 1:10 in the video. You can hear me play a trombone solo at 3:27 into the video.
